Jacksonville Athletic Academy kicks off season with scrimmage, eyes big goals under former NFL star Nolan Carrol

The Moccasins will play Edward Waters University on Aug. 24 at Nathaniel Glover Stadium.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. β€” Fans on the First Coast got a close-up look at some local college football action Saturday as the Jacksonville Athletic Academy Christian College Moccasins hosted their white-versus-green scrimmage at University Christian.

You may not have heard of the school, which is entering its fourth year since being established, but you might recognize head coach Nolan Carroll, an eight-year NFL veteran.

The Moccasins are eager to make a name for themselves this season.

"What they've been teaching us and the motivation they've been giving us, it's all the hard work, it's all of us. This is one of my favorite teams that I've ever been on," said Trey Rose, a tight end for the Moccasins.

"We're really good at holding everyone accountable. I feel like if anybody messes up on the field and tries to put their head down, we tell them, 'Pick your head up, keep your head held high,'" said wide receiver Voshon Pleisir.

The Moccasins will play Edward Waters University on Aug. 24 at Nathaniel Glover Stadium. The game time has yet to be announced.
