First Coast Fall Sports Stars meet for Media Day

"Very motivated. We're all coming back with a chip on our shoulder from last year, wanting to win the state championship," said Juan Pablo Castillo-Zima.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Fall sports are in full swing across the First Coast, with athletes from swimming and diving, cross country, volleyball, powerlifting, and bowling all in action.

The event, hosted by the YMCA and Baker Sports, brought together dozens of schools to discuss their seasons so far and their goals for the future.

"Very motivated. We're all coming back with a chip on our shoulder from last year, wanting to win the state championship," said Juan Pablo Castillo-Zima, a member of the Bishop Kenny track and field team.

"We've already been swimming since August. Imagine what they're going to do when they're seniors? My freshmen are awesome," said Kylie Twigg, a swimmer and team captain at Paxon.

"This year, we want to place at state. We've been there before—placed 13th, placed 12th. We want to place in the top eight, get on that podium, and be proud of myself," said Jiontez Everett of the Mandarin Mustangs swim and dive team.

Players, coaches, and athletic directors had the opportunity to showcase the talent on their squads under the lights and cameras.
