Edward Waters University officially becomes a full-time member of NCAA Division II

EWU president A. Zachary Faison Jr. said the university had to pay a fee worth about $30,000 just to submit an application to NCAA Division II.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. β€” The Edward Waters University athletic program is now officially a full-time member of NCAA Division II and the Southeastern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

This makes EWU the only HBCU institution in Florida to compete in NCAA Division II.

EWU president A. Zachary Faison Jr. shared that this process began in the spring of 2019, and that just to put in a bid to become an NCAA Division II program, EWU had to submit an application worth about $30,000.

After going through numerous tests and paperwork, the Tigers were approved for the transition in 2021, and after serving a three-year probationary period, the Tigers are officially in the big leagues.

The university will now receive more funding from the NCAA, but more importantly, the student-athletes can finally compete for NCAA championships.
