JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Edward Waters University athletics is under construction, and it's been all uphill since. They have a brand-new football field, weight room and now, a new head coach of their Men's Basketball program. Coach Cabral Huff already made his impact.
Junior point guard, Goliath Mitchell, shared insights into Coach Huff's immediate impact, stating, "He first came in, laid down rules, told us expectations, where we need to be, what we're going to do, and how we're going to do it this year. He did it, and we're on schedule."
Coach Cabral Huff emphasized the team's growth and unity, saying, "What you're seeing right now is this team growing together and playing for one another, not just themselves. That's why we've been on a little run lately."
Cabral Huff, a seasoned coach with experience at Alcorn State, Georgia Southern and Voorhees University, took on the role of head men's basketball coach at Edward Waters University. He expressed a deep commitment to changing the culture at EWU, highlighting the importance of playing for something larger than individual success.
"I'm a graduate of an HBCU, so I understand the importance of it, and I think these guys who are here understand the significance of this HBCU and why we're here and why we're doing the things we're doing," shared Coach Huff.
Beyond his coaching experience, Coach Huff's focus extends to fostering a positive environment. Goliath Mitchell, the junior point guard, commended Coach Huff's daily affirmations, stating, "Every day, he tells us a new word of the day or texts us in a group chat to let us know we're all loved and that we can be better at things, looking at things more positively."
The Tigers not only boast a winning record but have also experienced a notable hot winning streak, showcasing the effectiveness of Coach Huff's strategies. As the team continues to evolve, fans can witness the new-look Tigers at their next home game, scheduled for next Saturday at 5 p.m.
