Edward Waters Tigers split victories in intense basketball showdown against Spring Hill College Badgers

The double header started with a dub on the women's side.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Edward Waters University's women's basketball team hosted the Spring Hill College Badgers in an electrifying matchup Saturday. The Tigers, under the seasoned leadership of Head Coach Charmaine Wilson in her 13th season with the organization, showcased their prowess from the get-go. Kayla Horton's impressive score right from the tip-off set a tone of determination, but the Badgers swiftly countered with Marta Duda's finesse, executing a memorable reverse lay-up.

The first quarter remained fiercely competitive, with Khadija Smith's strong bucket off an offensive rebound underscoring the Tigers' resilience. Ultimately, Edward Waters University secured a hard-fought victory, triumphing over the Badgers with a final score of 73-65. This win not only marked the end of a challenging three-game losing streak but also propelled the Tigers to a 4-5 standing in the season.

Their next game is at home on December 18 against Tuskegee University at 3 p.m.

Shifting the focus to the men's game, the atmosphere remained charged as the EWU Men's Basketball Team took on the Badgers on their home court Saturday. Coming off their recent second home win earlier in the week, the Tigers were fervently pursuing a third consecutive victory. Leading the charge in his inaugural year as head coach was Cabral Huff.

The game opened with an explosive display from the Badgers, as Timothy Reilly's early slam dunk energized the visiting team. Despite this momentum, the Tigers, led by RJ Noord's persistent efforts and Addonis Tolbert's skillful play resulting in two crucial points from the block, clawed their way back into contention.

However, as the game progressed, the Badgers asserted their dominance, gradually widening the point gap. Ultimately, despite the Tigers' valiant efforts, they fell short to the Badgers, unable to overcome the opposition's lead, concluding the game on a somber note.

The final for that game was 103-85. Their next game is at home on December 18 against Tuskegee University at 7:30 p.m.
