Dylan Lampkin: The steady force behind Edward Waters Tigers' success

"A lot of the success that we've had in our passing and run game is a credit to him," Morgan said.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — First Coast High School Buccaneers alumnus and fifth-year senior Dylan Lampkin has been with the Edward Waters Tigers since his freshman year. Lampkin has seen both the good and the bad times.

Lampkin is two different people. Off the field, "Dylan Lampkin is a gentle giant," Edward Waters head coach Toriano Morgan said. "He's very well-mannered, well-spoken, and he takes care of his business," said Edward Waters Head Football Coach, Toriano Morgan.

On the field, Morgan said left tackle Dylan Lampkin is a problem.

"Some might say undersized, but you'll never know it with the relentlessness that he plays with," Morgan said.

Lampkin protects the quarterback's blind side, and Morgan said he's the standard of Tigers' football.

"A lot of the success that we've had in our passing and run game is a credit to him," Morgan said.

"I like to lead by example, and I guess they see that," Lampkin added.

Every year, before each season, he sets a goal for himself — and he's hit every single one of them so far.

"My sophomore year, my goal was to become a captain. I eventually became a captain. My junior year, I wanted to be all-conference. I didn't become all-conference, but in the preseason, I was second-team all-conference. Then my senior year, I wanted to be first-team all-conference, and that's what I became," Lampkin said.

His next goal is to win a championship, but he knows he can't do it alone.

"The younger guys and the guys that are under you, if you're doing everything the right way, they're going to try to mimic it. If you're loud, the 'rah-rah' guy, and you're not doing your part and leading by example, they're not going to listen," Lampkin said.

Morgan credited Lampkin for the improvement in both the pass and run game every year, with the best still to come.
