Bobby Ramsay, new head coach of the Andrew Jackson Tigers

Jackson had a rough go in 2023 with a 3-8 record under Bartley.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A familiar face, in a new place.

Bobby Ramsay is the new head coach of the Andrew Jackson Tigers, just two years after he took the head coaching position at Impact Christian.

For the tigers it's their second head coach in two years.

Ramsay replaced Darryl Bartley.

Jackson had a rough go in 2023 with a 3-8 record under Bartley and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

Bartley replaced Christopher Foy, who left for the same job at Oakleaf.

Coach Ramsey told us it's critical his team lets go of the past and focus on what's in front of them; he added his top priority right now is gaining his player's trust.

"It was a lot of disorganization and we just did what we wanted to and didn't take it seriously, and the winning showed it," said Tay'vion Lawson, a wide receiver and defensive back for Andrew Jackson.

So the school went in a different direction, hiring Bobby Ramsay as the new head coach of the Tigers, and he's running things differently.

"He makes sure the locker room is clean, makes sure we clean the field, makes sure everybody keeps their grades up because without the grades, you can't go to college. He makes sure everything is straight," Lawson said.

Ramsay said several things went into making the switch.

"It just felt like a good fit. I felt like at the end of the day, you're always trying to do what's in the best interest of your career and family. I felt like the setup for many reasons was ideal for where we're at with the family right now," Ramsay said.

Ramsay says it's easy to work for a team with a lot of skill, and the Tigers have that. But what really separates this team is their drive to get better.

"Love the game, care about each other, enjoy being here. It's a big part of their lives and I don't know that every kid or team is like that," Ramsay said.

Ramsay says the Tigers don't have many returners, but it's making them work harder for their chance on the field on Fridays. He believes it'll translate to wins.

"We have a couple on the offensive line. Two or three. We have a couple receivers, and a couple in the secondary," Ramsay said.
