Andrew Jackson's multi-sport powerhouse: Tay'vion Lawson

Lawson values a three-sport approach because he knows his younger siblings are watching him.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It's not uncommon for student-athletes on the First Coast to participate in more than one sport. But try being an absolute standout in three sports and dominating in every single one of them.

Andrew Jackson High School head football coach Bobby Ramsay said, "He can do a lot of different things. He can play both ways, he can return kicks, he can line up in multiple positions and so, I think everybody nowadays is looking for guys to check a lot of boxes."

He is Andrew Jackson's Tay'vion Lawson.

"I play football, basketball, and I run track," Lawson said.

A three-sport star.

"I was playing basketball, and we made it all the way to state so I missed half of track season for that. When I came out, I was playing football. The track coach, Coach Ed, needed somebody to do high jump at districts, so I did it and I won," Lawson said.

Ramsay said Lawson's athleticism speaks for itself, but it's his approach that separates him from other athletes.

"Brings positivity and a great attitude and leadership that people are drawn to," Ramsay said.

Lawson values this approach because he knows his younger siblings are watching him.

"My big brother, Octavious Lawson," Lawson said. "He's just a great guy. I love him. I got a little brother who's coming here next year and a little sister, and I'm trying to show them that the Lawsons win."

High school sports fans, get ready. You'll be seeing this rising senior shining on the field, hardwood, and track for at least one more year. Lawson said his goal is to play any of those three sports at the Division I level and then take his talents to the professional level.
