The Jacksonville Jaguars will have a new starter at the Leo defensive position next season.

The team announced Thursday that it has released veteran defensive end Chris Clemons.

In 32 games (24 starts) with the Jaguars, Clemons produced 50 tackles, 11 sacks and five forced fumble.

However, his final season in Jacksonville proved to be disappointment, as he compiled just 14 tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble, despite appearing in all 16 games.

Clemons sat out of all non-mandatory practices in the offseason and became a regular on the sidelines during practice due to his weekly “veteran days off.” Turning 35 in October, the former Seattle Seahawk is nearing the end of his NFL career.

Cutting Clemons will save the Jaguars $4 million in salary cap space. The Jaguars released guard Zane Beadles earlier in the day for a savings of $5.5 million.
