Jacksonville Jaguars fall to Indianapolis Colts, 34-27

The Jags took on the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, but despite a good look earlier in the game, Jacksonville took the loss 34-27.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jaguars traveled to AFC rival Indianapolis to take on the Colts Sunday, taking the loss 34-27.

The Jaguars came into this one at 2-3 while the Colts came in at 2-2-1. The home team had won the last 10 games between the Jaguars and Colts.

The Colts got the ball first. They moved the ball downfield on seven pass plays and no rushing plays, but the Jaguars defense would force them to punt. On the Jags opening drive, Travis Etienne Jr. broke loose for a 49-yard run into Colts territory. The Jags would have to punt, however, after Trevor Lawrence was sacked for a 15-yard loss. The Colts would then go three and out after a nice tackle on third down by Jags rookie linebacker Travon Walker. On the Jags second drive of the game they got big plays from Travis Etienne Jr. and James Robinson to get them into Colts territory. Then, a reverse to Jamal Agnew who would take it all the way to the Colts 1-yard line. Trevor Lawrence would punch it in with a QB sneak to put the Jags up 7-0 early.

The Jags would stop the Colts on third and goal on Indy’s next drive to force a Chase McLaughlin 28-yard field goal. The Jags got the ball back with a 7-3 lead and before you could blink, JaMycal Hasty ran it 61 yards for the touchdown. It was the Jags’ longest offensive play of the season and put Jacksonville up 14-3 over the Colts. After punts by both teams on their next drives, Colts running back Deon Jackson had two nice runs after the catch to set the Colts up in the red zone. Matt Ryan would find Parris Campbell through the air who stretched out for the Colts only touchdown of the first half. Campbell’s touchdown made it 14-10 Jags, and the Colts would add a 43-yard field goal just before halftime. The Jags led 14-13 at the half.

The Jags didn’t waste any time getting on the board to start the second half. An explosive run into Colts territory by Travis Etienne Jr. got things going. Trevor found tight end Luke Farrell and receiver Tim Jones for two first downs before taking it in himself for his second rush touchdown of the game to make it 21-13 Jags. After a roughing the passer penalty on Travon Walker to extend the Colts drive, Deon Jackson would get the Colts set up with first and goal following a couple big runs up the middle. Jackson would take it in for the touchdown. It would be 21-19 Jags after Matt Ryan’s 2-pt pass to Michael Pittman Jr. was ruled incomplete. The Jags moved the ball downfield on their next possession thanks to a big James Robinson run and two throws from Trevor Lawrence to Zay Jones for 14 and 15 yards. However, the Colts would stuff Travis Etienne Jr. on the pitch from Lawrence on 4th and 1 and get the ball back down 21-19.

The Colts would start the fourth quarter in Jags territory. After a costly pass interference penalty on Shaquill Griffin, Matt Ryan would find rookie tight end Jelani Woods in the end zone to make it 26-21 Colts. Down 26-21, the Jags drove down the field and Trevor Lawrence found Christian Kirk for the four-yard touchdown pass. The Jags led 27-26 after failing to convert the two-point attempt. The Colts took a 34-27 lead with 17 seconds left after Matt Ryan found Alec Pierce for the 32-yard touchdown pass and Phillip Lindsay ran it in for the 2-pt conversion. Indianapolis would hang on to win 34-27 to move to 3-2-1 on the season, while the Jaguars dropped to 2-4 suffering their third straight loss.

The Jags host the Giants next Sunday at 1pm.
