Icemen's Matt Vernon Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

This marks his second time receiving the weekly accolade this season.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Icemen, affiliated with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and the AHL’s Rochester Americans, proudly announced today that Matt Vernon has been honored as the Warrior Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for March 25-30. This marks his second time receiving the weekly accolade this season.

During the mentioned week, Vernon demonstrated exceptional performance, securing a flawless record of 3-0-0, including one shutout, with a remarkable 2.34 goals-against average and an impressive save percentage of .936 across three appearances.

The 26-year-old goaltender showcased his skills by making pivotal saves throughout the week's matchups. He made 35 saves in a 5-4 victory against Orlando on Thursday, followed by 32 saves in a 5-3 win against Florida on Friday. He capped off his stellar week with a flawless performance, stopping all 35 shots in a 2-0 triumph against the Everblades on Saturday.

Hailing from Calgary, Alberta, Vernon currently shares the ECHL lead with 25 wins and ranks third with a 2.36 goals-against average and a .921 save percentage.

As the son of Hockey Hall of Fame goaltender Mike Vernon, Matt made his professional debut late last season, showcasing his talent in two games with Reading, boasting a 2.40 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

Before entering the professional arena, Vernon had an impressive collegiate career, appearing in 67 games at Colorado College and achieving an overall record of 15-31-6 with six shutouts, a 2.64 goals-against average, and a save percentage of .914.
