JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the FHSAA football regular season kicks off on Friday, Aug. 23, teams across the state are wrapping up their final preparations.
Thursdays before game days are crucial for teams as they work to iron out last-minute details. For coaches, however, the day is packed with responsibilities beyond the gridiron.
“There’s no equipment staff. In high school football, you wear a lot of hats. So, you’re decaling the helmets, setting up pregame meals, getting the kids ready to travel,” said Andrew Jackson head coach Bobby Ramsay. “A lot of people don’t understand the bus situation right now. It’s tough for us, and you’re trying to have your walk-through while your JV team is getting ready to leave. You don’t have 25 coaches. You have a smaller staff, so you’ve got to manage that. You don’t just show up, coach football, and leave. If you do that, you’re probably not doing the job the right way.”
Friday’s games will also mark the culmination of months of hard work during the offseason. Players have dedicated countless hours in the weight room, on the practice field, and in film sessions, all leading up to this moment. The excitement is palpable as they prepare to showcase their skills under the Friday night lights.
Communities across Florida are also gearing up for the excitement. High school football is more than just a sport; it’s a tradition that brings together families, friends, and fans. As the season kicks off, the stands will be filled with supporters eager to cheer on their local teams.
