JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A few local athletes turned in winning performances in the 50th Annual Bob Hayes Invitational Track & Field Meet at Raines High School on Saturday.
Stanton College Prep senior Kendal Williams won the boys 100 meter dash with a time of 10.28 seconds. Williams, an FSU signee, ran a faster time last year in this event when he finished second to current Seminoles kick returner Levonte "Kermit" Whitfield.
In the boys 1,600 meter race, St. Augustine High School junior Ryan Aponte took the lead in the final 100 meters. He held on to win this event with a time of 4:27.
As the meet concluded, those still in attendance received a special treat as Emmitt Smith, the NFL's all-time leading rusher, made a surprise appearance. The Pro Football Hall of Famer played in the Tim Tebow Foundation's Celebrity Golf Tournament at TPC Sawgrass earlier in the day.
