The Ed White Commanders defeated the Fletcher Senators 7-0 in a defensive battle to win back-to-back Flag Football Gateway Conference Championships.
The only score of the game came on a pick-six in the first quarter from junior Alaysha Williams, leading the Commanders to their third title in the last four years.
"These ladies are relentless. They accepted the challenge this year. We have seven of our eleven on varsity all brand new to flag football at Ed White," said head coach Bachir Saoud. "I have to say, our four seniors carried us. Tyra Pierce does her thing."
Senior running back and defensive back Tyra Pierce caught the game-sealing interception in the end zone with under 30 seconds left in the game, securing her team's title.
"Knowing that we can push and persevere through these tough, tough teams, no matter the year. We get better and better no matter the doubts, the criticism, we just push through it. We make champions here at Ed White," said Pierce.
The Commanders will now prepare for the regional playoffs.
