JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Baldwin Indians dominated the Paxon Golden Eagles 10-0 in six innings to claim their fourth consecutive Gateway Conference Softball Championship.
"We are like a family, and whenever we win together, it's just like stepping up again. And just knowing that we can do it, it really just keeps encouraging us for the harder games that we have coming on," said Shaylen Byrd, senior pitcher.
The Indians are now 18-0 on the season and have outscored their opponents by 185 runs.
"Our seniors, a lot of them have been here since sixth or seventh grade, and every year that's our first goal is to win the Gateway, and it's small steps for our season," said head coach Jennifer Shields. "It's really exciting. We won our first one four years ago and have won four in a row, so we are excited."
The Indians are now looking forward to making it back to the State Tournament Final Four for a third consecutive season while aiming to win their first-ever State Championship.
