JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Former Jaguars kicker Brandon McManus was released by the Washington Commanders on Sunday, according to a release.
The roster change comes less than two weeks after McManus was named in a sexual assault lawsuit filed by two women in Duval County court. The Jaguars were also named in the lawsuit.
The women claim McManus inappropriately touched them while they were both working as flight attendants on the Jaguars charter flight to London in 2023.
The lawsuit, which was filed in Duval County Circuit Civil Court on May 24, stated that McManus tried to kiss both of the women and grinded up against them as they were handing out food on the flight.
The lawsuit alleges the sexual misconduct happened in front of McManus' "professional peers" and "high-profile clients."
The lawsuit accuses the Jaguars displayed gross negligence by not adequately hiring McManus, failing to train him about inappropriate and sexual contact with flight staff, neglecting to supervise him during the flight, lacking policies and procedures to protect flight staff from sexual misconduct by employees and not enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on inappropriate behavior.
The Jaguars picked up McManus in 2023 from the Denver Broncos but did not resign him for the 2024 season.
He was signed by the Washington Commanders where he obtained a one-year, $3.6 million contract.
On Monday, the Commanders said in a statement that they were looking into the allegations against McManus, adding they were in contact with McManus' representation.
"We take allegations of this nature very seriously and are looking into the matter," the Commanders' statement said in part.
The Commanders did not immediately announce the reason for McManus' release.
