FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Logan Sargeant, the Florida man who became Formula One's first American driver since 2015, has lost his seat. He was the first American to score points in 30 years when he came 10th -- following two drivers being eliminated -- at Austin's Circuit of the Americas in 2023.

Williams Racing, the team Sargeant, 23, has raced with since the beginning of the 2023 season, announced Monday they signed Spaniard Carlos Sainz Jr. With their second seat already filled by returning Alex Albon, this means there is no room for Sargeant.

Rumors have been flying about Sargeant's future this year as Williams Team Principal James Vowles publicly admitted he had his heart set on signing Sainz.

Sargeant's departure will leave the Miami Grand Prix, driving distance from his family's home in Fort Lauderdale, without a hometown hero.

Williams Racing posted a statement from Vowles following four posts celebrating Sainz signing to the team, thanking Sargeant for his time with them.

"I want to thank Logan for everything he has done for the team and know he will continue to fight hard for us in the races ahead," Vowles wrote.

Sargeant will finish the last ten races of 2024 with Williams. There are currently four unclaimed seats for the 2025 season, but no teams have expressed interest in hiring Sargeant.

He has not commented at this time, or indicated his next steps.
