CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. — High school football rains supreme here on our First Coast, with some of the best prep football players in country playing Friday night.
First Coast Sports sat down with Camden County standout Elyiss Williams, who has committed already to Georgia for 2025. He was also recruited by Auburn, Florida and Florida State.
A young man whose talents go far beyond the football field.
"Anything on the field, I feel I can play," he said. And he plays basketball, too.
The tight-end for the Camden County Wildcats' is one of the best high school football players in the country.
A junior, he's recruited by some of the top division one football teams in the country.
"Being like 5 or 6 years old, I used to play flag football. I used to play with my brothers all the time," he says. Now he's a five-star recruit.
He's not a man of many words. But his game-- on the football field and on the hardwood --speaks for itself.
This 6'6 and 240 pound giant is two-sport star.
David Bailey, Camden County head boys basketball coach says, "He doesn't like you saying, he's a 5-star athlete. He doesn't like people knowing he's going to Georgia. He doesn't like attention. He didn't want to do this interview cause he just doesn't like attention." But he doesn't mind singing Williams' praises.
Bailey says, "He likes to win, but he hates losing. Kids just don't have that. He was all state last year as a basketball player, he was the single-a player of the year last year." He says Williams is also an outstanding student and person. "He takes care of his business in the classroom, he takes care of his business in the weight room. I wasn't here for his interview but I'm sure it was yes ma'am. Those are the kids that make it."
Williams says his key to success is: "Keep god first, keep your grades up, and be you."
Coach Bailey says he personally believes Elyiss is a better basketball player. If you want to see for yourself, he'll be on the hardwood Friday night at 7:30 p.m. when the wildcats host Colquitt County.
