JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the Jacksonville University men's basketball team prepares for the first River City Rumble of the season against North Florida, they have one thought in mind—revenge.
Last season, the Ospreys won both matchups between the teams, which came in back-to-back games.
Including those rivalry bouts, JU finished the season losing six of the last seven games, while UNF used those wins to create momentum, closing the season winning six of their last eight games.
"They still have ingrained in their mind, them bringing out the broom and saying that they swept us. So being able to understand that they took that level of pride in beating us here. The game at Swisher was actually more of a beat down. And so, just understanding both schools have pride," said JU head coach Jordan Mincy. "If you look at them last year, the two wins they got against us, actually jump-started their season and allowed for them to finish on a strong note."
The first edition of the River City Rumble is set for Jan. 12 at 7 p.m. at UNF Arena.
