JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Since being founded in 1965, Florida State College at Jacksonville has never had an official mascot. 58 years later, the college announced Thursday, Oct. 12, that they are launching their mascot selection process to allow the community to resolve the issue of having a nonexistent school spirit symbol, according to a news release.
The college wants the mascot to represent "students, faculty and staff" as the community is open to voting for their top three favorite choices out of a list of 25 potential options. However, new ideas will also be considered, the release states.
In addition, the mascot "should be a symbol that represents the significance and importance of FSCJ in helping students meet their academic and professional goals," the release states. FSCJ says the mascot will serve as the face of the college's athletic teams and should reflect a fun, energetic and competitive brand. The mascot will also integrate the college's existing colors, FSCJ states.
Here are the 25 options for the college's official mascot, according to the release:
- Admiral
- Black Bear
- Blue Heron
