TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After rumors circulated around Mike Norvell being a top candidate to replace Nick Saban at Alabama, FSU wasted no time extending their head coach, giving him a new 8-year deal.
Norvell is expected to make over $10 million per year, putting him in the upper echelon of highest-earning college football coaches.
Norvell previously signed a contract prior to the 2023 season, but once he led the Seminoles to a 13-1 season and an ACC title, the university decided to give him another salary raise and contract extension.
"We came to Tallahassee four years ago, and it was a life-changing experience," Norvell said in a statement. "Knowing the great history, tradition and expectation has guided our staff on a daily basis. It has been an incredible journey these last four years, and I have fallen in love with this program, the university and the people who I get to represent. I am so excited to continue our climb to push Florida State back to the top of college football. We are committed to being our best on and off the field while helping develop our players to be their best in every area of their lives. I am incredibly thankful for the amazing commitment into our student-athletes and staff from President McCullough, AD Alford and the Board of Trustees."
Norvell boasts a record of 31-17 over his first four seasons at Florida State. The Seminoles have progressively improved their win count each year under his guidance, rising from three wins in 2020 to five in 2021 before making a significant leap to 10 wins in 2022 and achieving 13 victories in the most recent season.
Furthermore, Norvell steered FSU to its first ACC title since 2014 and secured the team's first New Year's Six bowl appearance since 2016.
