JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The River City Rumble between in-town rivals, the University of North Florida and Jacksonville University men's basketball teams, has been neck-and-neck over the years, as the Ospreys lead the all-time series 21-20.
Last season, UNF won both meetings and seven out of the last 10.
Under 15th-season head coach Matthew Driscoll, the Ospreys have claimed 18 of their 21 victories against the Dolphins.
Driscoll said this matchup isn't just important due to the rivalry but also because both teams are in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
"This is more like Carolina-Duke. USC-UCLA. Those kinds of situations where not only are you close in proximity, but it means a lot as far as the ASUN is concerned," said Driscoll. "And then you talk about the next game you have with them because you have to play them twice. So, there's a lot more to it. It's great for the fans. It's awesome for the city. It's awesome for all those particular things, but in the long haul, what it really is, it's really the next game on the schedule."
The River City Rumble is set for Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m. at UNF Arena.
