JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The approach of any hurricane can create anxiety and uncertainty, but knowing what to do before, during and after can help ease your mind.
First Coast News staff and volunteers with the American Red Cross are manning a half dozen phone lines to arm people with the knowledge they need to feel safer - and be safer.
"The idea behind it is to explain how they can get prepared and what they should be doing," said Christian Smith, who is among the Red Cross workers on the lines.
The organization says people should know its volunteers are not weather forecasters. They can not know exactly where Dorian is headed or whose homes might be affected.
Volunteers can, however, give information on evacuation zones, routes to safety and more.
