A Jacksonville-based organization aimed to protect children against abuse i seeking legal action against the Florida Department of Children and Families after a Jacksonville couple reportedly abused a 5-year-old to death.
Safe Haven of Northeast Florida held a press conference on Monday, announcing that an attorney is looking into the death of Zykerria Robinson. Her autopsy report revealed that she had multiple injuries throughout her body, indicating long-term abuse, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office reported last October.
Robinson was found unresponsive in a bathtub at Oak Tree Apartments, inside the home of her mother Michelle Cannimore and her boyfriend Jonte Harris. She died a little after she was taken off of life support on Oct. 19, 2018.
Police arrested the couple and charged them with child abuse.
One month prior to Robinson's death, DCF claimed they did not find any form of abuse against the child.

Robinson's grandfather, Henry Doyle, told First Coast News that he believes DCF could have done more to protect Robinson.
During the press conference, Robinson's grandparents said they hired legal aid to take custody of the children last summer, months before Robinson's death.
They have since adopted Robinson's sister.
“We don’t have to ever worry about anybody else harming one of our grandkids again," Doyle said.
