The Volkswagen Beetle was terminated today

The last of the famous bug was made in Mexico today but local enthusiast group Dune Buggy Bros. are hopeful for a return.

The Volkswagen bug has officially been terminated, as the last bug rolled off the production line in Puebla, Mexico.

The iconic car has been unmistakable for decades and has caused countless numbers of sore shoulders. (punch buggy no punch back!)

However, pulling the car is not a new move for Volkswagen, the company has discontinued the car a handful of times during its decade's long lifespan.

The Dune Buggy Bros., a father-son duo run Volkswagen enthusiasts club based in Fernandina Beach, is not concerned. Michael and Michael Shores believe that the bug will return in a greener form. They cite the announcement of an electric van from Volkswagen as a reason to expect an electric beetle in the future.

In the meantime, the Dune Buggy Bros. will continue their passion for making the cars their own.

"They're real simple cars", said Michael Shores Jr. "They're fully customizable. You can make them whatever you want and that's really what draws people to them because you can put your own heart and soul into them and make them personal."

The legacy and love for the beetle will live on with the Dune Buggy Bros. as they meet with like-minded Volkswagen owners and host charity events like their annual event 'Buggies on the Beach'.

The Shores did confirm the saying is true, "you get more smiles per mile in a Volkswagen".
