WAYCROSS, Ga. -- A Waycross man who authorities say kept his mother's death under wraps while he lived in her home and siphoned money out of her bank account has been arrested, police confirmed Tuesday.
Rodney Harold Dillon, 53, of Carrie Drive, was booked Monday into the Ware County Jail on a felony charge of concealing the death of another, according to an arrest report. Dillon remains in custody.
The body of Dillon's mother, identified as 76-year-old Iva Lee Aldridge, was found inside her Carrie Drive residence after investigators obtained a search warrant for the home, Waycross Police Capt. Danny Hampton confirmed.
Investigators suspect Dillon had been living off his Aldridge's money in her home after she passed away at some point, according to police. It's not yet clear when she died. An autopsy is being performed to determine her cause of death.
Police initially started looking into Dillon after receiving a tip that she had not been seen or heard from for some time.
That's when they found evidence that suggested the Aldridge's money was being spent in Ware County that police say didn't square with the account that she had been living in Florida.
Dillon, the Florida Times-Union reports, ran unsuccessfully for mayor of Waycross in 2003.
