WAYCROSS, Ga. -- A 65-year-old woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck in Waycross, Georgia Monday morning, authorities said.
The Waycross Police Department identified the victim as Katherine Harris, 65, of Alma, Georgia.
The accident happened just after 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Plant Avenue and Ava Street.
According to the Police Department, Harris was driving northbound on Ava Street when she attempted to turn left onto Plant Avenue and her Chevrolet Impala was struck by the front of a Freightliner three-axle tanker truck loaded with diesel fuel.
The two vehicles then traveled through the intersection with the Impala pinned to the front of the Freightliner and collided with a Ford Mustang stopped at the intersection, police said. The right corner of the Impala traveled down the driver's side of the Mustang, investigators said, and after the two cars separated, the tanker truck and Impala skidded into the parking lot of a business office located in the 1400 bock of Plant Avenue.
Harris was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The driver of the Freightliner and the driver of the Mustang were not injured in the crash, according to WPD.
There was no cargo loss from the tanker truck, investigators said.
All lanes of Plant Avenue between Ava Street and Darling Avenue were closed for several hours until the investigation was complete.
