Sprouts, a Phoenix-based chain, is officially opening the doors to its 4873 Town Center Parkway location Wednesday morning, marking the first location for Jacksonville and the 11th location for Florida.

"We know that shoppers here want fresh, healthy groceries at great prices," said spokesperson Kalia Pang. "We're here to offer that and so much more ... Really just convenience, value at a really affordable price."

The first 200 customers will also receive a 20 percent discount off of their purchase. All customers will get a free reusable bag with their purchase.

What is Sprouts?

Sprouts is often compared to Fresh Market or Whole Foods. It's known for serving fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, as well as all-natural meats, fish and seafood. It also has plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

Similar to its other stores, the Town Center location has a salad bar that is constantly filled with freshly cut vegetables and fruits. It also offers a mixture of salad options outside of the standard like Caprese salad to kimchee cucumber salad. At the end of the salad bar, you'll also find three soup options.

On the other side of the salad bar, you'll find a deli where you can get a made-to-order sub, sandwich or ciabatta roll. You'll also find fresh sushi options made in-house throughout the day.

Customers will also find a wide selection of organic and non-organic produce (even an exotic produce section with dragonfruits and jackfruits), as well as craft beer and wine to purchase, some that are from local breweries.

"We offer a variety of local products," Pang said. "You'll see them marked clearly around the aisles with 'local' tags that ranges from everything from beers to groceries staples like tomato sauce, salsas, I saw some local fruit here too ... We really like to support those really high-quality local purveyors doing great things in Jacksonville and the surrounding areas."

In its produce section, Sprouts also has an exotic fruit section where you can find produce like dragon fruits to jackfruits.

Sprouts also takes pride in its "buy-in-bulk" section for when you only want a certain amount of grains, seeds, coffee, etc. "so you don't have to worry about wasting anything," Pang said.

Don't forget to also check out their wide selection of vitamins and supplements where, four times a year, they have sales where you can get 20 percent off, Pang said.

What does Sprouts bring to the community?

The grocer will donate any edible food that isn't purchased and leftover to the community food bank, Feeding Northeast Florida, thanks to Sprouts' food rescue program.

Food that is no longer edible and unbought will be donated to local cattle farms and composting facilities, our news partners, the Florida Times-Union reported.

The Town Center location marks the first Sprouts in Northeast Florida. The company says it's already in the works for a second location along Beach Boulevard, but it didn't announce an official location or opening date.
