Living in Florida, many people seem to worry about shark attacks during beach season, but maybe their attention should be on the cute, unsuspecting squirrels.
Over the weekend, one squirrel went nuts and attacked a man in Sarasota, Fla. The incident was caught on camera.
In the video, Robby Armstrong is seen walking to his truck when a squirrel suddenly charges at him, pounces on him and then attacks his arm before running away.
Armstrong was left with minor cuts to his arm, according to WWSB.
Turns out, this wasn't Armstrong's first rodeo with this squirrel. He told WWSB that it used to be his neighbor's pet, but they released it back into the wild when it became aggressive. It has since attacked several neighbors in the area, as well as his stepson, WWSB reported.
Perhaps squirrel attacks do not happen as often as reported shark attacks in Florida, but they do happen:
The last squirrel attack reported in Florida prior to this incident was in 2018 when a random squirrel pounced on a toddler and left scratches on her back and arms at Shadow Bay Park in Orlando, a place known to have aggressive squirrels.
In 2017, a 3-year-old boy was bitten nine times by a squirrel while playing at a daycare playground in Orange County, Fla. according to our news partners, WESH 2 News in Orlando.
And in 2016, another squirrel wreaked havoc on a nursing home in Deltona, Fla. It went inside the facility and attacked multiple people before the rodent was thrown outside.
The next time you see a squirrel, be weary and don't try to feed it.
