PORT ORANGE, Fla. —A warning sign may soon be placed in front of the homes of sexual predators in Port Orange.
This comes after city leaders voted to increase the distance sex offenders can live from schools and churches from 1,000 feet to 2,000 feet.
The new proposal recommends placing the signs at the homes of convicted sexual predators not sex offenders.
"I understand people need to have a place to live. That doesn't mean I have to make them feel welcome here," Burnette said. "These are the most dangerous of all offenders and we have four registered in Port Orange."
The city of Perry in the Panhandle has a similar law that allows the warning signs.
The council will be discussing the proposal at Tuesday night's meeting.
