JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida resident has died after getting ill from the recent Listeria outbreak linked to sliced deli meat, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The investigation into illnesses and deaths linked to Boar's Head deli meats began July 19. A recall of the meat has already been issued, but the CDC says it can take up to 10 weeks for some to show symptoms of listeriosis.
The meats recalled include Boar's Head ready-to-eat liverwurst products produced between June 11 and July 17. Boar's Head also recalled all deli products with "EST. 12612" or "P-12612" inside the USDA mark of inspection on the product labels.
Below is a full list of all recalled products. The CDC urges you not to eat recalled deli meats.
So far, there have been 57 cases of Listeria reported from this outbreak, according to the CDC. Of the 57 cases, all patients have been hospitalized.
The nine deaths resulting from the outbreak occurred in Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, New Mexico, New York and two in South Carolina.
"The true number of sick people in this outbreak is likely higher than the number reported, and the outbreak may not be limited to the states with known illnesses," the CDC wrote. "This is because some people recover without medical care and are not tested for Listeria."
The median age of those known to be sick with the illness is 77. The youngest to be hospitalized is 32 years old and the oldest 95.
