JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Florida was ranked the second best state in the United States to live in, according to a study released by WalletHub Monday.

Florida is a "great place to build and grow wealth," according to the report. Also cited are the state's high safety rating and wide range of attractions.

WalletHub ranked every state 1-50 in affordability, economy, education and health, quality of life and safety.

The Sunshine State didn't rank number one in any of the categories, but did boast high enough scores to land it two on the list, right behind Massachusetts.

  • Affordability: 30
  • Economy: 11
  • Education and Health: 24
  • Quality of Life: 4
  • Safety: 10

"Florida is the second-best state to live in, boasting one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country, at just 2.9%, along with the sixth-most job opportunities per capita," WalletHub's Adam McCann says.

McCann also references the state's "large number of restaurants, beaches, fitness centers, and theaters per capita," as big draws.

When it comes to safety, Florida has the ninth most law enforcement employees per capita, according to the study. This equates to the 13th lowest violent crime rete, McCann says.
