NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested in New Smyrna Beach Monday morning after police found him locked inside a Walgreens overnight.
The New Smyrna Beach Police Department responded to the Walgreens off State Road 44 around 3 a.m. after the store's alarm company notified them a man was locked inside the store.
The department said Christopher Morgan, 46, entered the store at 9:40 p.m. and went to the restroom. He reportedly left the restroom at 2:42 a.m. and walked the aisles, snatching various items off the shelves like chips and dip, chocolate bars, soda and cigarettes.
When police arrived, they said Morgan was stealing cigarettes from behind the counter. The officers walked Morgan through the process of unlocking the front door and when he got out, they arrested him.
The department said Morgan resisted officers when getting arrested and spit on an officer after being placed in the patrol car.
