First Black woman to make long-term spaceflight aboard SpaceX launch from Cape Canaveral

The rocket launched from the Kennedy Space Center with four NASA crew members aboard.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida early on Wednesday morning. 

The rocket launched from the Kennedy Space Center with four NASA crew members aboard. Wednesday's was the first launch with a crew comprised equally of men and woman. Aboard the rocket was Jessica Watkins, the first Black woman to make a long-term spaceflight, according to the Associated Press.

The launch begins a journey to the International Space Station.
