Construction worker rescued after being buried alive at VA hospital in Gainesville

The worker was buried in about a 25-foot hole under 2 feet of dirt.

A construction worker is recovering in the hospital after he was buried alive under 2 feet of dirt at a construction site on Thursday in Gainesville.

Gainesville Fire Rescue (GFR) said it got a call about the buried construction worker around 9:20 a.m.

GFR said the worker was buried in about a 25-foot hole under 2 feet of dirt at the VA hospital.

He was rescued by GFR's specially trained technical rescue team before being transported to UF Health Shands.

At this time, no other information has been released.
