INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla — Four people were killed, including a 7-year-old boy, after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 in Indian River County Monday.

The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-95 at mile marker 153.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 37-year-old Miami woman was driving her Toyota Camry in the outside lane of the highway when she struck the rear end of a Suzuki Vitara driven by a 40-year-old Miami man.

Both cars were disabled in the roadway when a Dodge Journey with six occupants struck the back of the Vitara, according to the FHP report.

FHP said the drivers of the Camry and Vitara exited their cars and were on the highway helping the occupants of the Journey when a Freightliner semi-truck struck the left side of the Journey.

The crash caused a series of collisions that ultimately resulted in the deaths of the 37-year-old Camry driver, 40-year-old Vitara driver, 40-year-old Journey driver and 7-year-old Journey passenger, FHP said.

Four other occupants of the Journey, a 42-year-old man, 5-year-old boy, 9-year-old girl and 2-month-old boy were transported to the hospital. All six occupants of the Journey were from Palm Bay.

The 63-year-old driver of the semi-truck was not injured and was released from the scene, according to the report.
