3-year-old Jacksonville boy who wandered away from Orlando resort near Disney found dead

The boy was staying at a resort across the highway from Walt Disney World property.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Editor's note: A previous version of this story said the boy, Rakim, had autism, as that information came from the Orange County Sheriff's Office. However, Rakim's family told First Coast News that he didn't.

A 3-year-old Jacksonville boy at the center of a Florida Missing Child Alert was found dead Thursday afternoon after he wandered away from an Orlando resort.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement put out an alert for missing Rakim Akbari just before noon. The Orange County Sheriff's Office said Rakim wandered away from a resort near World Center Drive, which is across Interstate 4 from Walt Disney World property.

The sheriff's office said Rakim, who also goes by "Tuda," was wearing white pajama pants and a t-shirt when he went missing.

Rakim was found later in the afternoon deceased in a body of water at the resort he wandered away from in the morning.

"We are grieving his loss, and our prayers are with his family," the sheriff's office said in a social media post.

Detectives are looking into how the boy died.
