PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. — A 15-year-old boy drowned in a rip current while swimming at a Florida beach over Veterans Day weekend.
According to Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue, the teenage boy and his siblings were swimming near the inlet at Gulfstream Park around 7 a.m. when a strong rip current swept through.
One of the child's siblings was rescued, but a search continued for the 15-year-old boy. Unfortunately, his body was recovered a few hours later.
"Someone told me about something that had happened here and there was a drowning with a family," Tiffany, a Boynton Beach resident, told WPTV. "And some lived and did not. And I was in shock."
A fire rescue captain was injured during the rescue but is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Boynton Beach Police Department.
"Very dangerous today," Palm Beach County Ocean Rescue Lieutenant Andrew Rogers said. "It's basically one big washing machine out there. Water's going very single direction, rip currents everywhere. It's a very dangerous day."
