JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — President-elect Donald Trump said he would endorse Randy Fine for Florida's 6th Congressional District if he chooses to enter the race to replace Mike Waltz.
Trump took to his social media website Truth Social to make the endorsement.
"A Harvard Educated, Successful Businessman, and Highly Respected State Legislator, Randy has been an incredible Voice for MAGA, and the Great People of Florida," Trump wrote in the post on Saturday afternoon.
Fine currently represents Florida's 33rd District, which includes Brevard County. He won the Nov. 5 race against Democrat Vance Ahrens to represent Florida District 19 in the State Senate, which also represents the Brevard County area.
Trump tapped Waltz to be his national security advisor earlier this month, leaving the seat for Florida's 6th Congressional District wide open. The district includes parts of Flagler, Putnam, St. Johns, Lake, Marion and Volusia counties.
For vacant congressional seats, a special election would need to be held in order to fill each seat.
"I am hearing that America First Patriot Randy Fine is considering launching his Campaign for Congress in Florida's 6th Congressional District," Trump wrote in his Truth Social post. "In Congress, Randy will be an INCREDIBLE Fighter who will work tirelessly with me."
The president-elect added Fine will assist him with issues including inflation, the economy, border control, support for military veterans and energy.
"Should he decide to enter this Race, Randy Fine has my Complete and Total Endorsement," Trump wrote.
Fine, who is still mourning the loss of his mother who died last week, took to X to address Trump's endorsement.
"Clearly Mom wasted no time once she made it upstairs," Fine wrote. "It would be the honor of my life to be one of your footsoldiers."
State Representative and Chairman of the Duval GOP Dean Black also congratulated Fine on the endorsement on X, saying Fine is a "ferocious fighter for conservative values" and Trump.
While Fine has not officially announced he is running for the seat, he teased that he "will have news to share soon" and said he will appear on Fox and Friends Monday morning.
