Rep. Lucy McBath, whose son was shot and killed in Jacksonville, speaks on gun violence at DNC

McBath lost her 17-year-old son after he was shot and killed over an argument about loud music at a Jacksonville Gate gas station.

CHICAGO — A Georgia U.S. Representative whose son was murdered at a Jacksonville gas station took the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to raise awareness about the impact of gun violence across the nation.

Rep. Lucy McBath stood alongside those who were survivors or lost loved ones in shootings like she did in 2012.

McBath lost her 17-year-old son, Jordan Davis, after he was shot and killed over an argument about loud music at a Jacksonville Gate gas station on Southside Boulevard on Nov. 23, 2012.

Since her son's death, McBath has been a prominent advocate in the fight against gun violence.

"Our stories are of loss, but make no mistake -- our losses do not weaken us," McBath said onstage. "They strengthen our resolve. We will secure safer futures that we all deserve."

She said they will continue to organize, advocate and run for office to make the necessary changes to keep communities safe.

"And we will elect leaders like Kamala Harris who won't just emphasize but will act," she stated.
