JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — First Coast News is monitoring the results of the Clay County Sheriff Race. Results are below.
Who ran for Clay County Sheriff?
Incumbent Sheriff Michelle Cook faced former Sheriff Darryl Daniels.
Daniels was acquitted in 2022 of charges related to a public scandal over an affair. He had been removed from position by Gov. Ron DeSantis in August 2020 when he was arrested.
Clay County voters decided to stick with Cook, who replaced Daniels in 2020.
Cook is a 32-year law enforcement veteran, serving with both the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office the Atlantic Beach Police Department.
Daniels said the following in a post on his Facebook page after the race wrapped up:
"November 5th is behind us and I want to thank everyone who supported or volunteered in the Daniels campaign. I appreciate each and every one of you. May God continue to bless you and your families. As for our divided country, we need to focus on unity instead of division. To everyone who won their elections, congratulations. Remember the people who you'll be sworn in to represent and keep them in your thoughts as you do your job. God speed."
