TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- With Marco Rubio's last minute decision to run for re-election, the field is now set for the Senate race that some observers could decide which party controls the U.S. Senate.
Rubio and businessman Carlos Beruff are the two candidates who will square off on the GOP primary ballot on August 30. Beruff, whose candidacy has the backing of Governor Rick Scott, said he could spend $15 million on an effort to unseat Rubio.
Two U.S. representatives, Patrick Murphy from Palm Beach County and Alan Grayson from the Orlando area, are vying for the Democratic nomination on August 30.
Grayson is considered a darling of the liberal, anti-establishment wing of the Democratic party. He is also facing an ethics investigation into a hedge fund.
Murphy, who unseated well-known conservative Allen West in 2012, is getting the backing of Democratic heavy hitters including President Obama.
