Beaver Street Enterprise Center, located in Jacksonville, was closed for around 40 minutes on Election Day 2024 after a suspicious package was found.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland told First Coast News a polling location in Jacksonville's New Town area was closed temporarily on Election Day due to a suspicious package that was found.

The polling location is the Beaver Street Enterprise Center, located at 1225 West Beaver St. It was closed for approximately 40 minutes, from 12:20 p.m. to just before 1 p.m.

"The police had informed us to evacuate the building," said Holland. "We did so accordingly. We set up outside the perimeter they set, then started directing voters to come downtown to vote."

About 20 people arrived at the location to vote during the timeframe it was closed.

Holland couldn't say what the package was, but said nothing was found that was dangerous.

"They said there was nothing inside that was anything, nothing to harm anybody," said Holland.

Holland said there is no plan to extend time at the Beaver Enterprise Center beyond the 7 p.m. cut off. Furthermore, he reports there are no issues at any of the other precincts and the Supervisor of Elections Office was able to open all 160 in Duval County on time.
