Duval County is a historically red county -- until 2020, it had not chosen a Democratic president since Jimmy Carter in 1976. But in 2020, Duval chose Joe Biden by a margin of 51.2% to 47.2%. In May of 2023, the county elected Democrat Donna Deegan to serve as its first female mayor. Democratic Party Gubernatorial candidate Andrew Gillum won the county by 16,710 votes in 2018.
