JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Monday, October 7 is the last day for you to register to vote in the state of Florida.

From the latest census data, out of about a million people in Duval County, about 65% are registered voters. That's 644,000 people, with 38% registered Democrats, 36% registered Republicans, 22% without a party affiliation and 3% classified as "Other."

With just five days left until the registration deadline, local organizations are still hard at work registering voters and making sure they know their status.

It all started with a virtual Zoom call back in July on 'Saving Our Democracy.' Over 100 hopped on to discuss ways to mobilize voters ahead of the upcoming Presidential election.

Dr. Barbara Darby, Co-organizer said they've been hard at work since the call ended. Canvassing neighborhoods and hosting events at universities.

Thousands of QR code cards handed out to bring the registration to the people.

"This has been our big strategy to get people registered here," said Darby. "It takes them to the supervisor of election website; they can check their voter status and if they’re not registered, they can register online. Whenever we get one person registered that’s a plus. Whenever we inform someone about the full ballot and the amendments that’s a plus."

Duval County Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland said they've noticed a steady increase in voter registration, with 644,000 currently registered in Duval.

However, 88,000 voters are inactive which happens when your election mail is undeliverable.

Jacksonville City Council also working to help reach voters in all communities, including Spanish speaking voters. On September 24, 2024, Council passed an amendment to appropriate $25,000 to the Supervisor of Election office for advertising for the upcoming election.

"We’ll do billboards, outreach to get people to vote by mail the number to call," said Holland.

Holland said there are fewer registered voters in this Presidential Election than the last, but he still believes there will be a large turnout.

"We think the percentage of those voting will be higher than what we had four years ago and we may reach the high 70% range," he said.
