Duval voters from both parties energized for the upcoming presidential election

Officials say 125 people registered to vote after Biden dropped out, and 646 the week after Trump being shot.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — It is no secret July has been dramatic month for both parties, between the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, or President Joe Biden dropping out Sunday.

Duval County has seen 125 people register to vote after Biden's announcement Sunday, and 646 came to register the week after the Trump shooting. Some changed their political parties.

Patricia Gillum Sams, a registered Democrat, says Vice President Kamala Harris being the potential Democratic presidential nominee is a breath of fresh air. "To us that was the momentum that we needed, light and lift into this moment.”

As for the Republican Party, according to local GOP leader Dean Black, they could not feel more united. "We are absolutely united, invigorated, enthused and it isn’t going to go away. Republicans are going to show up to vote, Republicans are going to reach out to their neighbors, and they are going to make sure they vote," Black said.

With an election set to be razor thin, both sides talked about how energized they feel going into this election.
