DeSantis orders flags at half-staff in honor of Bob Graham

The former governor died on Tuesday at the age of 87.

TAMPA, Fla. — The United States and Florida flags will be flown at half-staff throughout the state in honor of former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Graham.

DeSantis made this order for the flags to be at half-staff from sunrise on Wednesday until sunset on the date of internment.

Graham's family announced the death Tuesday in a statement posted on X by his daughter Gwen Graham. He was 87.

Graham was a graduate of the University of Florida and Harvard Law School before serving in the Florida House and Senate. He became governor in 1978 where he served two terms and then was a United States Senator for 18 years.

In a news release, DeSantis said Graham "exemplified a commitment to public service and to bettering the State of Florida."

After leaving public life in 2005, Graham spent much of his time at a public policy center named after him at the University of Florida to train future political leaders.

DeSantis also made comments about him at his bill-signing press conference on Wednesday.

“We’re really thankful for his service and he served very very ably for this state for many, many years,” he said.
