A man is being charged with aggravated battery after he reportedly attacked another man with a machete in St. Augustine, according to the St. Augustine Police Department.
On Sunday around 3:11 p.m., officers were called out to 1301 Plantation Island Dr. in reference to a stabbing. When they arrived, they found the victim bleeding "profusely" from his left hand and that he had two large cuts to his arm and lower back, according to police.
Police first applied a tourniquet to the victim's left arm to stop the bleeding. The victim was also transported to Orange Park Medical Center. Their condition isn't known at this time.
Officers said they also searched the area and located the suspect, Richard Chubka, inside of a tent in a wooded area with a machete.
Chubka was detained for questioning and later charged with aggravated battery. He was transported to the St. Johns County Jail without incident.
