On Your Side: Are your AFC tickets legit?

Jags fans may want Brady, but scammers want their money just as bad.

Jags fans may want Brady, but scammers want their money just as bad. As of Monday, tickets to the AFC Championship game through NFL.com and Ticketmaster are sold out leaving third-party resale as the only option to see Sunday's Foxborough matchup.

Sites like StubHub, Vivid Seats, and Cheaptickets.com are advertising seats with prices starting at $357.

How can you be sure the ticket you purchase is legitimate? Unfortunately, fraudulent ticket holders often won't know they've been duped until game day when the ticket is scanned. Scammers can sell a legitimate hard-copy ticket and use the barcode to create duplicate digital tickets to other buyers.

Use trusted sites and check their guarantee policy. Reputable ticket resale vendors will give a full refund if the ticket is invalid or find te buyer another comparable ticket to the same event. However, for a sell-out NFL event another ticket may not be possible.

Be skeptical of tickets sold on sites like Craigslist or social media that don’t have a backed guarantee. NFL.com recommends using the NFL Ticket Exchange which guarantees any fan-to-fan tickets being sold are verified.

After selecting tickets:

-Make online purchases use a credit card that has fraud protection.

-Ask for a hard copy of the ticket to be mailed in advance of the game.

-Arrive early to the game in case your ticket has other unsuspecting owners.

-Don’t post photos of your ticket online. Scammers can use the barcode on the photo to remake a ticket.
