JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Hundreds of viewers across the First Coast received messages Tuesday evening about a hurricane watch issued for parts of the Southeast- the problem with the alert was that it was false.
Viewers lit up social media wondering if a hurricane was in fact bearing down on the Sunshine State.
The National Weather Service confirmed to First Coast News the watch was an error produced by the National Hurricane Center.
Officials said the watch was meant to be a test but went out as an official notice around 9:37 p.m.
The FCN weather team says that there is not anticipated to be tropical development anytime soon in the Atlantic basin.
The Atlantic hurricane season is scheduled to begin June 1 and end on November 30.
